According to a colon cancer institute, colon cancer or colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the country. It is also the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women. There are some treatments for colon cancer. However, the most surprising fact is that it is preventable.
For serious diseases like cancer, people do not believe in natural treatments. However, Chris Wark proved it wrong. In fact, he survived Stage 3 colon cancer only through natural treatments. He did not take any chemotherapy because he firmly believed that the body needs proper nutrition to fight cancer.
Treatment for colon cancer range from chemotherapy to surgery. But, proponents believe there are a few proven alternative therapies and natural remedies that could have a significant role in the prevention of the disease. Preliminary research shows that some of these substances mentioned below may help:
1. Vitamin D
When the body maintains an optimum level of vitamin D, it lowers the risk of colon cancer. A 2010 study analyzed data of 1248 patients with colon cancer and healthy individuals respectively. Researchers determined that people with the highest level of vitamin D had 40% reduced risks of colon cancer.
2. Quercetin
Scientists performed lab tests on live-cell cultures to find that quercetin may be effective in preventing the growth of colorectal cancer. You can find it in the form of a supplement or foods like apples, berries, and onions.
3. Folate
Folate is a B vitamin present in foods such as spinach, fortified cereals, and asparagus. It may lower risks of colon cancer, as per a meta-analysis of 2005. 400 mcg is the daily recommended dose of folate for adults. However, pregnant should take 600 mcg and nursing mothers should take 500 mcg per day.
4. Tea
Green tea is believed to have significant results in fighting colon cancer. However, research is scanty. Ginseng tea is also believed to have the quality of reducing the growth and spread of cancer. Ginseng works as a potent anti-cancer antioxidant.
5. Eat garlic
Studies reveal that consuming garlic can lower the risk of different types of cancers, including colon cancer. Garlic is an effective remedy because of its antibacterial properties. Also, garlic stops the formation of cancer-causing substances, reduces cell proliferation, boosts cell repair, and induces the death of cancer cells.
6. Add omega-3 oils
Omega-3 oils, both EPA and DHA, reduce the risk of colon cancer. Found in cold-water fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and cod, this ingredient reduces the level of pro-inflammatory molecules, which promote cancer. Vegetarians can have flax oil for the same dose omega-3 oils. As a modern diet lacks omega-3 oils, oral supplements can be a good alternative.
7. Have foods containing selenium
Studies suggest that selenium inhibits colon cancer and works with other medications. It also inhibits the growth of healthy cells and promotes the death of cancer cells. Foods like onions, garlic, sunflower seeds, whole grains, Brazil nuts, fish, and mushrooms are rich in selenium.
However, due to the lack of research and science, natural remedies are not fully trusted. If you are considering using any of these natural treatments for colon cancer, consult your doctor.
