Lipsticks are the crowning jewel on most makeup regimens. Or a few swipes of lipstick do the trick if you want to look presentable in no time, and with no other makeup on your face. A bold lip color will brighten up your face almost instantly. However, not everybody knows how to apply lip colors properly. Lip color should never seem to bleed outside of the lip line, or fade as soon as you have a glass of water or a conversation.
For that exact reason, we have come up with some essential tips to make your lip color stay longer on your lips, and make you look as gorgeous as ever. Here are some lipstick application hacks that every woman should know:
1. Prepare your pucker
This is the very first step before you apply your lipstick. If you have dry and chapped lips, exfoliate your lips with a soft toothbrush and then moisturize them with a good lip balm. This is done to make them soft and supple. Think of it as creating a blank, smooth canvas to apply your lip color. You can also use a lip primer so that the lip color stays for longer. A lip primer is not mandatory, but moisturizing your lips is a must to reduce crevices and cracks, as dry lips tend to create an uneven surface that looks flaky, and may age you.
2. Apply a base
If you have any kind of discoloration or an uneven tone around your lips, hang on. In that case, it is always better to start your lip makeup by applying a base to even out those uneven patches. Use a concealer shade that matches the color of your lips as closely as possible, and apply it all over your lips using a flat brush, and then seal the base by using a compact. This will also give your lipstick staying power for much longer.
3. Use a lip liner
Using a lip liner becomes essential if you have thin lips. It will define your lips and give them a fuller appearance. Match the color of the lip liner according to the color of your lips. Mark dots along various points on the lips with the lip liner and then simply outlines your lips by joining the dots together before applying your lip shade.
4. Apply lip color
After defining your lips with a lip liner, it is time to apply your lipstick. Start at the center of your upper lip and then gently move the color outwards towards one corner of your lips. Bring it back to the center and then move it outwards towards the other corner. Repeat the step on the lower lip too. Dab it with your little finger to even out the color. Avoid dark colors if you have thin lips as it tends to make your lips look even smaller.
5. Blot your lip color
If you want to bring out a pouty look to your lips you can apply a hint of matching lip gloss. If you have not used any base or lip primer, you can use a facial tissue or cotton pad pressed loosely between your lips with a little powder in it.
These are the few steps that you can try before and after applying your lipstick to look beautiful and make a strong style statement.
